It also facilitates professional mobility and uniformity of the licensure processes through services it provides for its member licensing boards and licensees.
“We were fortunate to represent a seller with a demonstrated interest in the long-term health of the Greenville office market. Once occupied, this sale will lead to one of the largest net office absorbencies in Greenville County over the past two years. We believe NCEES will be a great asset to Verdae and enhance Greenville’s outstanding engineering reputation. We have been extremely blessed to work with most institutional engineering firms in our market and thankful for the support each firm provides to our surrounding industries and government agencies. NCEES’s commitment to the engineering firms within our market should have a lasting impact on the region,” said Edward Wilson.
NCEES is a national nonprofit organization made up of the engineering and surveying licensing boards from across the United States and its territories. It provides a range of services to support licensure and public protection, including developing the exams used to license professional engineers and surveyors.

Therefore, the move is also expected to have an annual economic impact of $1 million for the Greenville tourism and hospitality industry, including local hotels, catering, restaurants, and transportation.

EPA’s Brownfields Program Aids in Redeveloping Contaminated Properties in City of Columbia
EPA’s Brownfields Program provides grants and technical assistance to safely clean up and sustainably reuse qualified contaminated properties in the City of Columbia. A brownfield property is one that may be complicated by, or have the stigma of being complicated by, the presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, contaminants, controlled substances or petroleum/petroleum products. Sites that often qualify include:
- Solvent contamination sources – former dry cleaners, printers, junkyards, auto repair facilities
- Hazardous waste/waste sites – former industrial/manufacturing properties, treatment/storage/disposal (TSD) facilities, landfills
- Petroleum contamination sites – former distribution facilities, convenience stores, automobile repair facilities
During the process, the potential purchaser applies with DHEC as a Non-Responsible Party (NRP), asserting the intended reuse of the property will not be similar to the current operation or exacerbate the current contamination. Once approved, the NRP can enter into a Voluntary Cleanup Contract (VCC) managed by DHEC.
The inception of the Brownfields program signifies the first time that a documented contaminated property can be bought and redeveloped without environmental liability to the new owner. The indemnity is transferable to any subsequent owner.
Redevelopment of these once contaminated properties has the added benefits of job creation and increasing the local tax base, in addition to taking the pressure off of undeveloped and underutilized properties.
